Lung Nodules and Masses
A lung nodule is a small, rounded area seen on lung imaging, while a mass is larger. Causes include infection, inflammation and cancer. The appearance and growth pattern help determine the next step.
Symptoms
Many nodules cause no symptoms. Larger or related lesions may be associated with cough, breathlessness or chest discomfort.
How interventional radiology treats it
CT-guided lung biopsy uses a needle passed through the chest wall to collect tissue for laboratory testing. The results help distinguish benign from malignant causes. Some selected lesions may later be treated with image-guided ablation. The decision depends on imaging, location, size and the patient's overall health.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
