Uterine Fibroids
Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus. They can vary in size and number and may affect menstrual bleeding, pelvic comfort or fertility.
Symptoms
Heavy or prolonged periods, pelvic pressure, abdominal enlargement, frequent urination or pelvic pain. Some women have no symptoms.
How interventional radiology treats it
Uterine artery embolisation (UAE) blocks selected arteries supplying the fibroids using tiny particles. The reduced blood supply causes the fibroids to shrink over time and may improve bleeding and pressure symptoms. Imaging and gynaecological assessment help determine suitability. Treatment choices should account for future pregnancy plans and individual circumstances.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
