Adenomyosis
Adenomyosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows into the muscular wall of the uterus. It can make the uterus enlarged and tender and may cause heavy periods or pain.
Symptoms
Painful menstruation, heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic discomfort and a feeling of pressure. Some people have few symptoms.
How interventional radiology treats it
Uterine artery embolisation may be considered for selected patients. It reduces blood supply to uterine tissue by introducing tiny particles into the uterine arteries. Treatment suitability depends on symptoms, imaging findings and reproductive plans. Gynaecological assessment is important because other medical and surgical treatments may be more appropriate for some patients.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
