Kidney Trauma
Kidney trauma is damage to the kidney or its blood vessels, usually caused by blunt or penetrating injury. Some injuries heal with observation, while others cause significant bleeding or urine leakage.
Symptoms
Blood in the urine, side or back pain, abdominal tenderness and signs of blood loss. Severe injuries may affect kidney function.
How interventional radiology treats it
If an injured kidney vessel is bleeding, selective renal artery embolisation may be used to stop the bleeding while preserving as much functioning kidney tissue as possible. CT imaging helps assess the injury. Management depends on the patient's stability, injury severity and associated damage. Some patients need surgery or urinary drainage as well.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
