Pelvic Fracture-Related Bleeding
A pelvic fracture can injure nearby blood vessels and cause major internal bleeding. This may occur after road accidents, falls from height or other serious trauma.
Symptoms
Pelvic pain, swelling, bruising, dizziness, rapid heartbeat or low blood pressure. Severe bleeding may cause shock.
How interventional radiology treats it
Pelvic angiography identifies the bleeding vessels. Embolisation then uses coils or other materials to stop blood flow through the injured vessel. It can control bleeding without open surgery in suitable patients. Emergency resuscitation and coordination with trauma and surgical teams are essential because pelvic injuries may involve several organs and blood vessels.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
