Pelvic Venous Disorders in Men

Pelvic venous disorders occur when veins in the pelvis become enlarged or blood flow through them becomes abnormal. In men, these disorders may be associated with pelvic discomfort or abnormal venous drainage.

Symptoms

Symptoms can include a dull pelvic ache, heaviness or discomfort that worsens after prolonged standing. Symptoms vary depending on the underlying venous problem.

How interventional radiology treats it

Treatment depends on the exact diagnosis. In selected cases, venography identifies abnormal veins, and embolisation blocks veins responsible for abnormal blood flow. Ultrasound or other imaging may be used during assessment. A specialist must first establish that the symptoms are caused by the venous disorder.

Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
