Critical Limb-Threatening Ischemia

This is an advanced form of peripheral artery disease in which blood supply to the limb is severely reduced. Without treatment, tissue loss or amputation may occur.

Symptoms

Persistent pain at rest, non-healing ulcers, skin colour changes, tissue death or gangrene, usually involving the feet or toes.

How interventional radiology treats it

Endovascular treatment may include angioplasty, stenting or other techniques to restore blood flow to the affected limb. Imaging helps identify the location and severity of arterial blockages. Wound care, infection treatment and vascular specialist assessment are also essential. The aim is to relieve pain, support wound healing and preserve the limb whenever possible.

Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
