Vascular Trauma and Active Bleeding
Vascular trauma involves injury to a blood vessel, which may occur after an accident, fall, penetrating injury or medical procedure. Internal bleeding may be serious even when there is little visible blood.
Symptoms
Pain, swelling, bruising, dizziness, rapid pulse, low blood pressure or signs of shock. Suspected major internal bleeding requires emergency treatment.
How interventional radiology treats it
Embolisation uses a catheter to deliver coils, particles or other materials that block the bleeding vessel. A covered stent may be appropriate for selected injuries. CT angiography or angiography helps locate the source. Trauma and surgical teams coordinate care according to the patient's condition.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
