Dural Arteriovenous Fistula (dAVF)
A dAVF is an abnormal connection between arteries and veins in the membranes surrounding the brain. It can cause unusual pressure and blood flow in nearby veins.
Symptoms
Symptoms vary with the location and drainage pattern. They may include a pulse-like sound in the ear, headaches, visual changes, eye swelling or neurological symptoms. Some cases carry a risk of brain bleeding.
How interventional radiology treats it
Endovascular embolisation uses a catheter to reach the abnormal connection and deliver embolic material that closes it. Doctors use detailed vascular imaging to plan treatment and confirm whether the fistula has been sealed.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
