Head and Neck Vascular Malformations
These are abnormal collections or connections of blood vessels or lymphatic vessels in the head and neck. They may be present from birth and can become more noticeable over time.
Symptoms
Symptoms include swelling, visible skin changes, pain, cosmetic concerns, difficulty swallowing or bleeding, depending on the location and size.
How interventional radiology treats it
Embolisation blocks selected abnormal blood vessels, while sclerotherapy involves injecting a medicine into certain malformations to shrink them. Ultrasound and MRI help identify the type and extent of the abnormality. Several treatment sessions may be necessary, and follow-up is important.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
