Intracranial Artery Stenosis
This condition involves narrowing of arteries inside the skull that supply blood to the brain. It may result from atherosclerosis, in which fatty deposits build up in the artery walls.
Symptoms
Some people have no symptoms. Others may experience dizziness, weakness, speech difficulty or stroke-like episodes, depending on which artery is affected.
How interventional radiology treats it
In carefully selected patients, catheter-based angioplasty may be considered to widen the narrowed artery. A balloon is advanced to the affected area under imaging guidance. Stenting is used only in selected circumstances. Medication and management of blood pressure, cholesterol and other risk factors are central to treatment.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
