Dialysis Access Stenosis
Dialysis access stenosis is narrowing of a blood vessel or fistula used for haemodialysis. It can reduce blood flow and make dialysis less effective.
Symptoms
Poor dialysis flow, difficulty inserting needles, prolonged bleeding after needle removal or swelling of the arm. The dialysis team may notice abnormal pressure readings.
How interventional radiology treats it
Fistulography uses contrast imaging to locate the narrowing. Angioplasty then widens the narrowed area with a balloon. A stent may be considered in selected cases. Restoring access flow can help maintain reliable dialysis, but recurrent narrowing may require further treatment.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
