Lymphatic Leaks
A lymphatic leak occurs when lymph fluid escapes from a damaged lymph vessel. It may follow surgery, trauma or certain medical procedures and can delay healing.
Symptoms
Persistent clear or milky drainage from a wound or surgical drain, local swelling or fluid accumulation. Significant ongoing loss may affect nutrition and recovery.
How interventional radiology treats it
Lymphangiography uses contrast to visualise the lymphatic vessels and locate the leak. In selected cases, embolisation blocks the leaking channel. Dietary measures and other treatments may also be needed. The medical team monitors drainage, fluid balance and wound healing after the procedure.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
