Osteomyelitis in Selected Cases
Osteomyelitis is an infection of bone caused by bacteria or other organisms. It may occur after injury, surgery or spread of infection through the bloodstream. Diabetes and poor circulation can increase the risk.
Symptoms
Bone pain, swelling, warmth, fever or a wound that does not heal. Chronic cases may cause persistent drainage or ongoing discomfort.
How interventional radiology treats it
Image-guided bone biopsy can collect a sample to identify the organism and guide antibiotic treatment. If an associated fluid collection or abscess is present, image-guided drainage may be possible. Antibiotics remain central to treatment, and some patients need surgery. Follow-up helps assess whether the infection is resolving.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
