Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Liver Cancer)
Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary cancer of the liver. It is often associated with chronic liver disease, cirrhosis and hepatitis infections.
Symptoms
Early disease may cause no symptoms. Later features can include abdominal discomfort, weight loss, poor appetite, jaundice or abdominal swelling.
How interventional radiology treats it
Transarterial chemoembolisation (TACE) delivers chemotherapy and blocks selected arteries supplying the tumour. Radioembolisation delivers tiny radioactive particles through the liver arteries. Image-guided ablation may destroy selected small tumours using heat or cold. The choice depends on tumour size, liver function and overall health.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
