Pancreatic Fluid Collections
Pancreatic fluid collections may develop after pancreatitis or pancreatic injury. They can include pseudocysts or collections containing infected fluid and damaged tissue.
Symptoms
Persistent upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, fullness or difficulty eating. Some collections cause no symptoms.
How interventional radiology treats it
In selected cases, image-guided drainage places a catheter into the collection to remove fluid or pus. Ultrasound or CT helps guide placement. Some collections are better treated by endoscopic drainage or surgery. The choice depends on the collection's type, maturity, location and whether infection or other complications are present.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
