Splenic Artery Aneurysm
A splenic artery aneurysm is an abnormal bulge in the artery supplying the spleen. It may be associated with arterial weakness, pregnancy, portal hypertension or other vascular conditions. Rupture can cause serious internal bleeding.
Symptoms
Many are discovered incidentally. Some cause abdominal pain, while rupture may cause sudden severe pain, dizziness or collapse.
How interventional radiology treats it
Endovascular embolisation uses coils or other materials to block blood flow through the aneurysm. In selected cases, a stent graft may be used. CT angiography helps assess its size and location. The decision to treat depends on factors such as size, symptoms, growth and pregnancy-related risk.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
