Kidney Tumours (Kidney Cancer)
Kidney tumours are abnormal growths in the kidney. Some are benign, while others are cancerous. Risk factors for kidney cancer include smoking, obesity, high blood pressure and family history.
Symptoms
Many are found during scans for other reasons. Possible symptoms include blood in the urine, side pain, a lump or unexplained weight loss.
How interventional radiology treats it
Image-guided ablation may treat selected small kidney tumours. A needle is placed through the skin into the tumour, and heat or freezing destroys the abnormal tissue. A biopsy may be taken to identify the tumour type. Follow-up imaging checks treatment success and monitors for recurrence.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
