Renal Artery Aneurysm

A renal artery aneurysm is a bulge in an artery supplying the kidney. It may be associated with arterial weakness, fibromuscular dysplasia or injury. Many are discovered incidentally.

Symptoms

Often there are none. If rupture occurs, symptoms may include severe side or abdominal pain and internal bleeding.

How interventional radiology treats it

Endovascular treatment may use coils or a stent graft to exclude the aneurysm from circulation while preserving kidney blood flow where possible. The decision to treat depends on its size, growth, symptoms, anatomy and individual risk factors. Follow-up imaging is used to monitor the aneurysm and kidney function.

Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
