Renal Cysts
Renal cysts are fluid-filled sacs in the kidney. Simple cysts are common and often harmless. Some larger cysts cause pressure or discomfort, while complex cysts need further assessment.
Symptoms
Most cause no symptoms. Larger cysts may cause side pain, discomfort, infection or pressure on nearby structures.
How interventional radiology treats it
A symptomatic simple cyst may be treated by image-guided aspiration, in which fluid is removed through a needle. A sclerosing agent may then be introduced to reduce the chance of the cyst refilling. Imaging helps ensure the cyst is suitable for this treatment. Many cysts require only observation.
Whether this treatment suits you depends on your scans and overall health. A consultation is the first step.
